My Portfolio Space for User Experience Progression
Hello World!
Welcome in! My name is Kelvin: User Experience/User Interface designer, Twitch streamer, and nature walk enthusiast. This portfolio space is an iterative work in progress with the purpose of capturing my experiences as a practitioner along with lessons I’ve learned along the way. As of now, I’ve been working in the industry for upwards of 5 years as an IT specialized consultant. The work that I’ve done to this point has allowed me to leverage resources including: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, MySQL, GitHub, and Angular JS to name a few. I’ve always had a particular interest in both designing and creating web pages that can showcase the power of simplicity. The road to building up a UX/UI first mindset coupled with a solid front-end development skillset has been both rewarding and challenging. I firmly believe that although nothing good comes easy, the best lessons are learned with time and perseverance. My end goal entails becoming a more proficient UX/UI designer and front-end developer, therefore I always look forward to taking on new opportunities that can help me get there! As a lifelong learner, having the opportunity to work in this field continues to be instrumental in equipping me with the knowledge and background necessary to make a positive impact in our digital age.
What I’m About
Why Is It Important?
As previously mentioned, one of the biggest reasons as to why I became so interested in the UX/UI field is because of its drive to help reduce complexity for end users. Having the ability to understand your end user through research, prototyping, and development processes are at the heart of the profession. As someone who has been in the industry for a good chunk of time, I’ve gotten into a mindset of wanting to help better define what the User Experience lifecycle looks like as a whole. Working towards creating a linear process that can serve both experienced and incoming designers plays a critical role in advancing the future of the field.
When asked the question of what UX is, it’s easy to jump straight to saying wireframes, mockups, and fancy tech. At its core, UX is essentially a part of any tangible application or digital solution that we interact with. Working on solutions that help reduce confusion and ambiguity for target audiences is crucial. Being able to take that a step further and fuse this with basic markup and software development best practices ultimately benefits the team, the clients, and the end user. Whether it’s facilitating a usability test workshop, drafting a lo-fidelity wireframe, or implementing a UI prototype, each phase of the UX process carries it’s own significance and impact.
The need for user-centered design input in any project deliverable will always be prevalent. While AI technologies and automated applications have played a tremendous part in easing a lot of our every day interactions online, the element of understanding both your target audience(s), and the most effective design solutions to help them accomplish their online tasks, is of paramount importance. Skills including empathy, active listening, and collective ingenuity are just a few of the many components to building a successful User Experience.
Let’s Build!
One thing that’s been most meaningful about working in the field is getting the opportunity to collaborate with others and gain different perspectives outside of my own. Feel free to get in touch with me so I can learn from you!
